Meet the Team

RH Classics > Meet the Team

Since our business was established over 30 years ago, RH Classics has always been built on our exceptional people.  Each member of our hand-picked team cares passionately about what they do and it’s our goal to deliver honesty, integrity and expertise across our restoration, sales and servicing divisions, here at our workshops located in Twyford, just outside of Melton Mowbray in rural Leicestershire.

Welcome to the first of our team profiles, shining a light on each of the people who make up RH Classics.  We are delighted to introduce the first of these to focus on Kerry Birch, our resident metalwork guru.

Kerry started his career at Marshalls of Cambridge in 1977, in their Military and Aviation division, working on aircraft sheet metal detail where he spent 8 years honing his skills on the English Wheel.  Projects included the C130 Hercules and Lockheed Tristar, working in 40 thou aluminium, culminating in him fabricating the in-flight refuelling prototypes for the Falklands conflict in 1982.

In 1986, Kerry moved into automotive restoration, working on cars that variously included Cricklewood era Bentley’s, along with coach built Talbots and Delahayes of the 1930’s.

Come the new millennium, he took the trip stateside to the West Coast, spending 11 years working in and around LA, including time at the world renowned LimeWorks Speed Shop building hot rods, finally coming home to the UK in 2013 and joining the RH Classics team 4 years ago.

A true artisan and works with any metal from steel, aluminium and brass through to titanium, Kerry is expert in all types of welding including gas, tig and mig.  He can create panels from scratch by hand and using in-house bespoke body bucks and formers.  It goes without saying that he’s an absolute whizz on the English wheel too.

Over the years, key projects have included the recreation of the 1916 Sunbeam ‘Indianapolis’, built from period photographs and the body-frame alone, to the 1961 Alvis TD21 Drophead Coupe, first owned by Sir Douglas Bader that RH Classics is currently rebuilding from the ground up.

Working his magic on everything from day to day classics through to historically significant race cars, outside of our workshop Kerry’s looking forward to bring his own project, a ’28 Model A ’rod to fruition, which we can’t wait to see, as we know it’ll be spectacular.

Kerry is a genuine jewel in our restoration team crown;  if you’d like to restore your panel work back to factory (or better) finish, then Kerry is your man.
